Peanut
Peanuts originally come from Brazil and Peru. Today’s main growing countries are China, India, Indonesia, USA, Central America, Argentina, Brazil and Africa. Pakka peanuts come from China and Colombia.
The peanut is not a real nut, but belongs to the legume family. After fertilization of the blossom, the flower stalk becomes longer, bends downwards and penetrates the earth. There the fruit, the peanut, develops. This is therefore not gepflückt, but dug up. Peanuts are harvested in September and October in the northern hemisphere and in April and May in the southern hemisphere.

Small kitchen guide
Before the peanuts are put on the market, they are roasted. This improves their taste, extends their shelf life and removes bitter substances. Peanuts are offered in shell, as kernels, blanched, roasted and chopped. The peanut is best known as a roasted and salted snack. Peanuts are also extremely popular in chocolate bars, cookies, cakes and muesli. In Asian cuisine, they are a fixed component of numerous rice and wok dishes.
Storage
Natural, roasted, salted and spiced peanuts should be stored protected from oxygen and sunlight at ideally 15 degrees. Closed, opaque packaging is particularly suitable for this.
