About the product
Our organic hazelnuts come from the western Georgian region of Samegrelo – the cradle of all hazelnuts. They are grown by around 700 smallholder families, harvested by hand and gently processed in a modern facility. The hazelnuts are freshly roasted, chopped and vacuum-packed – directly at the source. This guarantees freshness and the highest product quality.
The chopped hazelnuts have a crunchy, slightly grainy texture and a balanced nutty-sweet aroma. Roasting activates the natural oils in the nuts, allowing the aroma of the hazelnuts to fully develop. Thanks to the airtight vacuum packaging, the flavour, texture and nutrients are optimally preserved – ideal for anyone who appreciates pure hazelnut quality.
Hazelnuts contain a lot of fibre and healthy unsaturated fatty acids. They are a source of vitamin E, B vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, potassium and iron. This combination supports cardiovascular health, lowers cholesterol levels and has an antioxidant effect. As a nutrient-rich food, they support a balanced diet.
Chopped hazelnuts are ideal as a topping for muesli, bowls, yoghurt or desserts and add a delicate crunch to baked goods such as biscuits, cakes and tarts. They are also an aromatic ingredient for bars, pralines or granola and add texture to vegetarian and savoury dishes, for example in breadcrumb coatings or fillings. Thanks to their convenient size, they are extremely versatile – from quick refinements to creative cuisine.
The organic hazelnuts come from Samegrelo in western Georgia. Around 700 small farming families cultivate 1-2 hectares of fields according to organic standards. After harvesting, the hazelnuts are dried, cracked, roasted, chopped and vacuum-packed at Pakka Georgia - the world's first organic and Fairtrade-certified hazelnut processor - in Chitatskari. This preserves the quality until the bags are opened.
Pakka has been supporting the development of a sustainable hazelnut value chain in Georgia since 2012. Thanks to a modern nut processing plant financed by Pakka and its partners, quality and yield have steadily increased. Today, Pakka Georgia employs around 150 people and processes up to 500 tonnes of hazelnuts per year. The aim is to achieve local, socially equitable and sustainable development for the entire region.
The organic hazelnuts are produced from A to Z in Georgia - directly in the country of origin of the raw material. Pakka deliberately favours direct trade without middlemen. In addition to paying fair prices, the harvests of the small farmers are pre-financed. This strengthens the entire local value chain and ensures fair incomes, high-quality products and sustainable local economic growth.
For every product sold, 5 pence goes to the Pakka Foundation to support projects in the countries of origin. More information: www.pakkafoundation.org
