About the product

Our organic Fairtrade shelled peanuts come from small Uzbek farmers in the Urgut region in the south of Uzbekistan. The nuts are harvested in autumn, then carefully shelled and processed. As this is an old local variety, the shell is slightly thicker than that of conventionally grown peanuts. There are 3-4 large to small, intensely flavoured peanut kernels per pod.

Raw peanut kernels have a mild, restrained flavour that is clearly distinct from the intense roasted note. They taste pleasantly nutty, somewhat sweet and with a slightly earthy flavour reminiscent of beans - typical of their legume affiliation. Their consistency is soft to crunchy, but less crispy than roasted peanuts. It is precisely because they are raw and natural that they develop their original character.

Peanuts, which belong to the legume family, are rich in vegetable protein and provide valuable fibre that supports healthy digestion. They contain healthy, unsaturated fatty acids as well as important micronutrients such as magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and vitamin E. This combination contributes to the normal functioning of nerves and muscles, supports energy metabolism and has an antioxidant effect by protecting cells from oxidative stress. Consumed in moderation, they are a nutrient-rich component of a balanced diet.

The unroasted peanuts without skin can be used in a variety of ways:

  • As an ingredient for homemade peanut butter
  • For baking and cooking (e.g. in bread, biscuits, sauces or Asian-inspired dishes)
  • As a topping for muesli, bowls or salads
  • Roasted and flavoured as a snack

Their neutral, natural flavour makes them the ideal basis for creative recipe ideas.

The peanuts grow in the fields of the Urgut region in the south of Uzbekistan. From May to September, the plants ripen in a dry, continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Irrigation is only carried out a few times a season using melt and rain water from the mountains - a scarce resource that is utilised very efficiently. Due to the slow growth in this water-poor environment, the nuts remain smaller than commercially available varieties, but develop a concentrated flavour and a high oil content. The harvest takes place in October.

They are then processed by Silk Road Organik Foods according to organic and Fairtrade standards: peeled, processed, sorted and packaged. Energy-efficient processes are used, including solar thermal and photovoltaic systems, which enable largely climate-friendly processing. Up to 80 employees - mostly women - sort the peanuts by hand and check them for impurities and quality.

Production takes place entirely in Uzbekistan - from the field to the processed kernel. Pakka deliberately favours direct trade without middlemen. In addition to paying the Fairtrade premium, the harvests of small farmers are pre-financed. This strengthens the entire local value chain and ensures fair incomes, high-quality products and sustainable local economic growth.

In addition to the Fairtrade premium, 5 centimes of every product sold goes to the Pakka Foundation to support projects in the countries of origin. More info: www.pakkafoundation.org
