About the product

Our organic chocolate cocoa nibs are fine cocoa dragées with character. They are made from fermented, dried and gently roasted organic cocoa beans, which are roughly broken and then coated with dark chocolate. The result: small, wonderfully crunchy pieces with an intense cocoa aroma and balanced sweetness.

The chocolate cocoa nibs combine two worlds: the powerful, bitter taste of roasted cocoa nibs and the delicate, rounded sweetness of dark chocolate with a high cocoa content. The palate reveals intense roasted aromas, notes of dark chocolate, coffee and roasted nuts, complemented by a delicate natural bitterness and subtle fruity nuances from fermentation. Crunchy to the bite, full-bodied in aroma, less sweet than classic chocolate snacks – ideal for those who appreciate chocolate in its natural form.

Cocoa nibs are considered a true superfood. They are rich in fibre, plant protein and healthy fats. Particularly noteworthy is their high content of secondary plant substances such as flavanols, which are believed to have antioxidant properties. These can help protect cells from oxidative stress.

Cocoa nibs also provide valuable minerals such as magnesium, iron and potassium, which contribute to the normal functioning of muscles, nerves and energy metabolism. Of course, they also contain theobromine – a gently stimulating substance that wakes you up without making you nervous. Combined with dark chocolate, the result is a conscious treat that combines sweetness, energy and nutrients.

Cocoa nibs are versatile:

  • As a topping for muesli, porridge and smoothie bowls
  • In biscuits, brownies, granola or energy bars
  • Eaten pure as a bitter cocoa snack

The organic cocoa comes from various regions of Colombia, including Tolima, Huila and Antioquia. It is grown by smallholder cooperatives comprising a total of around 150 families. After harvesting, the cocoa beans are fermented and dried on site – a crucial step in developing their aroma.

Further processing takes place at Equiori, Colombia's first organic chocolate manufacturer. Here, the cocoa beans are gently roasted, broken into nibs and coated with dark organic Fairtrade chocolate. Packaging also takes place directly in the country of origin. As a founding partner and co-owner, Pakka has been supporting Equiori since 2012. Equiori stands for EQUIDAD & ORIGEN – fair relationships and transparent origins. The cocoa is processed entirely in the country of origin, creating local jobs and long-term prospects for producers. In Colombia, cocoa is considered a "cultivo para la paz" – a fruit of peace – and offers an alternative to illegal coca cultivation in many regions of Colombia.

The chocolate cocoa nibs are produced entirely in Colombia – directly in the country of origin of the raw materials. Pakka deliberately focuses on direct trade and avoids intermediaries. Close cooperation with partners Fruandes and Equiori, as well as smallholder cooperatives, strengthens the entire value chain locally. This not only ensures the best product quality, but also creates fair jobs in structurally weak regions of Colombia and contributes to sustainable economic development.

In addition to the Fairtrade premium, 5 centimes of every product sold goes to the Pakka Foundation to support projects in the countries of origin. More info: www.pakkafoundation.org
