About the product
Our organic cocoa nibs from Equiori are pure cocoa in its most original form. They are made from fermented, dried and gently roasted cocoa beans, which are then broken up – without any sugar, additives or further processing. The result is small, crunchy pieces with an intense cocoa aroma.
Cocoa nibs impress with their strong, tart cocoa flavour and subtle natural bitterness. Roasted aromas are reminiscent of dark chocolate, coffee and roasted nuts, accompanied by earthy and slightly fruity notes. The finish is dry, intense and long-lasting – an authentic taste experience for anyone who appreciates pure cocoa.
Cocoa nibs are considered a true superfood. They are rich in fibre, plant protein and healthy fats. Particularly noteworthy is their high content of secondary plant substances such as flavanols, which are believed to have antioxidant properties. These can help protect cells from oxidative stress.
Cocoa nibs also provide valuable minerals such as magnesium, iron and potassium, which contribute to the normal functioning of muscles, nerves and energy metabolism. Of course, they also contain theobromine – a gently stimulating substance that wakes you up without making you nervous. When consumed in moderation, cocoa nibs are a valuable addition to a balanced, plant-based diet.
Cocoa nibs are versatile:
- As a topping for muesli, porridge and smoothie bowls
- In baked goods, granola or energy bars
- Eaten pure as a bitter cocoa snack
Tip: Roasting briefly enhances the roasted aromas even more.
The organic cocoa comes from various regions of Colombia, including Tolima, Huila and Antioquia. It is grown by smallholder cooperatives comprising a total of around 150 families. After harvesting, the cocoa beans are fermented and dried on site – a crucial step in developing their aroma.
Further processing is carried out by Equiori, Colombia's first organic chocolate manufacturer. As a founding partner and co-owner, Pakka has been supporting Equiori since 2012. Equiori stands for EQUIDAD & ORIGEN – fair relationships and transparent origins. The cocoa is processed entirely in its country of origin, creating local jobs and long-term prospects for producers. In Colombia, cocoa is considered a "cultivo para la paz" – a fruit of peace – and offers an alternative to illegal coca cultivation in many regions of Colombia.
The organic chocolate bars are produced entirely in Colombia – directly in the country of origin of the raw materials. Pakka deliberately focuses on direct trade and avoids intermediaries. Close cooperation with partners Fruandes and Equiori, as well as smallholder cooperatives, strengthens the entire value chain locally. This not only ensures the best product quality, but also creates fair jobs in structurally weak regions of Colombia and contributes to sustainable economic development.
In addition to the Fairtrade premium, 5 centimes of every product sold goes to the Pakka Foundation to support projects in the countries of origin. More info: www.pakkafoundation.org
