About the product
Our wild organic Fairtrade mountain almonds come from the Samarkand region in Uzbekistan. They grow wild on almond trees and are harvested by hand by smallholder families. After cracking and sorting, the almonds are blanched and peeled, then gently roasted and lightly salted. The result is an aromatic, crunchy snack with no additives.
The almonds come from old, small-kernelled varieties. Blanching and peeling brings out the delicate, slightly sweet almond aroma. Gentle roasting enhances the nutty flavours, while subtle salting rounds off the taste without overpowering it. Crisp in texture and balanced in aroma.
Almonds are a valuable source of vegetable protein, fiber, healthy unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E and minerals such as magnesium and phosphorus. They support normal cholesterol levels and protect cells from oxidative stress. As a nutrient-rich snack, they support a balanced diet.
Almonds are versatile: As a pure snack, in muesli and bowls, for desserts or as an ingredient in oriental and Mediterranean cuisine. They are also ideal for baking and for delicious almond pesto.
The wild almonds grow around Samarkand and are harvested by hand by small farmers. They are processed by Silk Road Organik Foods, the first Fairtrade-certified processor in Central Asia. All steps – from cracking and blanching to peeling, roasting and salting – take place entirely in Uzbekistan.
Silk Road Organik Foods works with two small farmers' cooperatives that support around 1,000 families along the old Silk Road. This close cooperation results in high-quality products, fair working conditions and sustainable development opportunities in structurally weak regions.
The almonds are produced from A to Z in Uzbekistan - directly in the country of origin of the raw material. Pakka deliberately relies on direct trade without middlemen. In addition to paying the Fairtrade premium, the harvests of small farmers are pre-financed. This strengthens the entire local value chain and ensures fair incomes, high-quality products and sustainable local economic growth.
