About the product
The organic Fairtrade golden cherries are harvested when fully ripe in the Samarkand region in summer by small Uzbek farmers and freshly processed, pitted and gently sun-dried by Silk Road Organik Foods. These are yellow cherries, which are classified as sweet cherries. 100% natural, unsweetened, unoiled and unsulphured. Deliciously honey-sweet and fruity flavour.
The dried golden cherries are characterised by their honey-sweet and fruity aroma. Their texture is pleasantly plump, which makes them appear particularly juicy. Subtle nuances of vanilla give the cherries their distinctive character.
Golden cherries are rich in fibre, which contributes to healthy digestion and keeps you feeling full for longer. They also provide natural vitamin C and secondary plant substances that have an antioxidant effect and can protect cells from oxidative stress. Their potassium content supports normal muscle and nerve function. As a natural dried fruit with no added sugar, they are a valuable source of energy – ideal for a balanced, plant-based diet.
Ideal as a snack on the go or as a fruity addition to muesli, bowls and desserts. Also perfect for baking, homemade bars or in oriental dishes. Note: Despite careful inspection, individual seeds and seed fragments may be present. Please exercise caution when consuming.
The botanical origin of cherries is believed to be in Asia Minor, in the Black Sea region. Our Uzbek golden cherries, which are sweet cherries, are descended from these original varieties.
The golden cherries are cultivated in the Samarkand region by small Uzbek farmers. Harvesting is carried out by hand in early summer, a laborious process. The farmers climb the trees with ladders or carefully loosen the fruit with sticks. They are members of a Fairtrade smallholder cooperative that supports around 300 families along the ancient Silk Road.
After harvesting, the fruit is dried in the sun. Silk Road Organik Foods, located near the city of Samarkand, handles the entire processing process. The processing combines manual care with modern technology. Up to 80 employees – mostly women – sort the fruit by hand, check it for impurities and remove small stones.
Our organic Fairtrade golden cherries are produced from A to Z in Uzbekistan - directly in the country of origin of the raw materials. Pakka deliberately favours direct trade without middlemen. In addition to paying the Fairtrade premium, the harvests of the small farmers are pre-financed. This strengthens the entire local value chain and ensures fair incomes, high-quality products and sustainable local economic growth.
In addition to the Fairtrade premium, 5 centimes of every product sold goes to the Pakka Foundation to support projects in the countries of origin. More info: www.pakkafoundation.org
