About the product
Uniquely creamy organic macadamias from fair trade. Hand-picked, untreated and natural. Wonderfully mild, buttery and crunchy. Produced 100% by Kenyan small farmers in the Taita Hills. The vacuum pack of the 1kg bag ensures the best product quality until the bag is opened at home.
Macadamias are deliciously crunchy and are characterised by a uniquely mild, buttery flavour. In their natural state, they have a subtle sweetness and a slightly bitter undertone. Their creamy texture and crunchy bite make them one of the finest nuts around.
Macadamias are rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, which help to maintain normal cholesterol levels. They contain vegetable protein, fibre and important vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B1, magnesium and iron. As an energy-rich snack, they support the heart, nerves and muscles and are a valuable part of a balanced diet.
Ideal as a pure snack, in muesli or bowls. Thanks to their fine flavour, macadamias also go well with baked goods, desserts or as a fine ingredient in savoury dishes such as curries or salads.
Origin: Macadamias thrive in the Taita Hills and around Mount Kenya. There, smallholder families cultivate the trees in species-rich agroforestry systems that promote biodiversity and secure sustainable incomes. The tropical highland climate, fertile volcanic soil and regular rainfall create ideal conditions. Ripe nuts fall from the tree and are quickly collected to ensure quality.
Processing: After delivery, the nuts are washed, dried, cracked and carefully sorted in Ten Senses' modern facility near Nairobi. Drying is carried out using hot air generated from the shells of the macadamias - a resource-saving cycle. Experienced employees sort the kernels by hand before they are vacuum-packed and prepared for export. By removing oxygen, the texture, flavour and nutrients are preserved in their original and healthiest form. This is how we guarantee the best product quality until the bag is opened at home!
About Ten Senses / Pamoja: Ten Senses Africa was founded in 2006 to provide smallholder macadamia farming families with fair prices and direct market access. Today, the company works with over 5,000 farmers, 2,600 of whom are certified organic, and operates a state-of-the-art processing plant near Nairobi with around 450 employees - the majority of whom are women. Since 2020, Ten Senses has been part of the Pamoja Group, which is building a sustainable macadamia and coffee value chain in East Africa from its base in Geneva. Together, Pamoja and Ten Senses promote regenerative agriculture, traceability and fair incomes for thousands of families.
The macadamias are processed locally in Kenya - directly in the country of origin of the raw material. Pakka deliberately favours direct trade without middlemen. This enables us to strengthen the entire local value chain. Thanks to a minimum price guarantee and the Fairtrade premium, we ensure fair incomes and sustainable economic growth locally.
In addition to the Fairtrade premium, 5 centimes of every product sold goes to the Pakka Foundation to support projects in the countries of origin. More info: www.pakkafoundation.org
