About the product

Our wild organic Fairtrade Brazil nuts come from the Bolivian Amazon. They grow on wild Brazil nut trees and are painstakingly harvested, cracked, calibrated and sorted by hand by collectors. After being exported to Switzerland, the Brazil nuts are gently roasted in Birmensdorf and only lightly salted.

The organic Brazil nuts impress with their crunchy texture and a fine buttery, tart flavour that gains depth when roasted. A subtle pinch of salt rounds off the flavour - a balanced nutty snack with a pleasantly spicy note.

Brazil nuts are particularly rich in nutrients. They provide vegetable protein, fibre, unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E and the minerals magnesium and phosphorus - nutrients that support energy metabolism and contribute to cell health. Their high selenium content is particularly noteworthy: Brazil nuts are the most significant natural source of this trace element, which is important for the normal functioning of the thyroid gland, immune system and sperm production. When eaten in moderation, they support a balanced diet.

Brazil nuts are very versatile: As a pure snack, in muesli and bowls or as an ingredient in hot dishes. Also ideal for baking and for delicious Brazil nut pesto.

The organic Fairtrade Brazil nuts come from the Bolivian Amazon, one of the most biodiverse regions in the world. The Brazil nut trees grow wild there in intact rainforest ecosystems. Harvesting is done traditionally and by hand: over 1,000 collectors - many from indigenous communities - spend days on foot during the harvest season to collect and crack the ripe capsule fruits. This original form of wild harvesting not only preserves the ecosystem, but also provides an important source of income for the local population. The collected nuts are processed directly on site by our partner Eximcruz and then exported to Switzerland. At the Swiss factory in Birmensdorf, the nuts are gently roasted and refined with salt - for the highest quality and sustainable added value from the rainforest to the finished product.

The Brazil nuts are processed locally in Bolivia - directly in the country of origin of the raw material. Pakka deliberately favours direct trade without middlemen. In this way, we strengthen the entire local value chain. Thanks to a minimum price guarantee and the Fairtrade premium, we ensure fair incomes and sustainable economic growth locally.

In addition to the Fairtrade premium, 5 centimes of every product sold goes to the Pakka Foundation to support projects in the countries of origin. More info: www.pakkafoundation.org
