About the product
Our organic Fairtrade raspberry powder is made from wild mountain raspberries. They are harvested by hand by smallholder families around Samarkand. Immediately after harvesting, the berries are gently air-dried, sorted and ground into whole-fruit powder. This preserves their flavour and colour. The raspberry powder is 100% natural: unsweetened and free from additives.
Intensely fruity with a distinct, naturally sweet-and-sour raspberry flavour. In powder form, the flavour blends particularly well, imparting a pleasant berry freshness and a natural pinkish-red colour to dishes. Depending on how it is used, the flavour can come through more strongly – particularly in neutral base products such as yoghurt or oat drink.
Raspberries are a good source of fibre and vitamin C. Vitamin C contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system and helps protect cells from oxidative stress. Raspberries also naturally contain phytochemicals (including polyphenols and anthocyanins), which give them their red colour.
As with dried fruit, the removal of water means that the nutrients and energy content per portion are more concentrated than in fresh berries. When eaten in moderation, they form part of a balanced diet.
- Smoothies & shakes: 1–2 teaspoons per serving, depending on the desired strength
- Muesli, porridge & overnight oats: stir in or use as a topping
- Yoghurt, quark & skyr: for a fruity flavour and natural colour
- Baking: in cakes, muffins, pancakes, waffles or bars (also in icings/creams)
- Drinks: stir into water, oat drink or tea (it will clump less if you first mix it with a little liquid to form a paste)
The raspberries grow in Uzbekistan in wild harvesting areas around Samarkand. They are harvested by hand by smallholder families. Wild harvesting is regulated by the state; a fee is paid per kilogramme, which also helps to protect the areas.
Further processing takes place entirely in Uzbekistan: after harvesting, the berries are gently air-dried, sorted, ground into whole fruit powder and packaged. Processing is carried out by Pakka’s partner, Silk Road Organik Foods, which works closely with smallholder cooperatives along the ancient Silk Road, thereby boosting local economic activity and creating jobs in structurally disadvantaged regions.
Our raspberry powder is produced from A to Z in Uzbekistan - directly in the country of origin of the raw materials. Pakka deliberately favours direct trade without middlemen. In addition to paying the Fairtrade premium, the harvests of the small farmers are pre-financed. This strengthens the entire local value chain and ensures fair incomes, high-quality products and sustainable local economic growth.
In addition to the Fairtrade premium, 5 centimes of every product sold goes to the Pakka Foundation to support projects in the countries of origin. More info: www.pakkafoundation.org
