About the product
Our organic Fairtrade apricot kernels come from wild mountain apricots grown in the Samarkand region of Uzbekistan. Small farmers harvest the fruit by hand, remove the stones, dry them and process them with care. The kernels are cracked, blanched, peeled and debittered. They are then gently roasted and refined with the finest sea salt. The result: a wonderfully crunchy nutty treat reminiscent of almonds – with no additives whatsoever.
Our apricot kernels come from small-seeded, aromatic varieties. Crisp in texture, with a pleasantly mild almond flavour, roasted aromas and a subtle hint of salt – perfectly balanced.
In terms of nutritional value, apricot kernels are comparable to almonds and equally valuable from a dietary perspective. Our apricot kernels are a natural snack, rich in dietary fibre, plant protein and vitamin E. They support normal cholesterol levels and protect cells from oxidative stress.
Whether eaten on their own as a snack, served with drinks, sprinkled over salads or added to bowls, our roasted and salted apricot kernels are incredibly versatile and add an aromatic crunch to any dish.
The wild mountain apricots grow around Samarkand and are harvested by hand by small farmers. Silk Road Organik Foods, our local partner and the first Fairtrade-certified company in Central Asia, handles the entire processing: from cracking the kernels to blanching and debittering them to refining them with sea salt. Production takes place entirely in Uzbekistan – from the field to the finished product. In addition, the kernels are produced sustainably as a by-product of apricot processing and are not grown separately.
Silk Road Organik Foods works with two small farmers' cooperatives that support around 1,000 families along the old Silk Road. This close cooperation results in high-quality products, fair working conditions and sustainable development opportunities in structurally weak regions.
The apricot kernels are produced from A to Z in Uzbekistan - directly in the country of origin of the raw material. Pakka deliberately relies on direct trade without middlemen. In addition to paying the Fairtrade premium, the harvests of small farmers are pre-financed. This strengthens the entire local value chain and ensures fair incomes, high-quality products and sustainable local economic growth.
