About the product
Our organic bilberry powder is made from wild bilberries. The berries grow in the forests of Bosnia and Herzegovina, are harvested by hand, gently air-dried and then ground into a fine whole-fruit powder. This preserves the full, berry-like flavour, with absolutely no additives.
Bilberry powder has an intense, fruity flavour that is slightly tart and pleasantly berry-like. Compared to fresh berries, the flavour seems more concentrated. In cold dishes, the fresh, berry-like notes really come into their own; when used in baking and in hot dishes, the flavour becomes rounder and milder.
Bilberries naturally contain fibre and phytochemicals (including anthocyanins, which are responsible for their dark colour). They are also rich in vitamin E and fibre, and are a source of folic acid and vitamin C. Vitamin E and vitamin C help protect cells from oxidative stress. Vitamin C also supports the normal function of the immune system. Folic acid contributes to normal blood formation.
- Smoothies & shakes: mix in 1–2 teaspoons per serving (goes well with banana, mango, yoghurt or oat drink).
- Muesli, porridge & yoghurt: stir in or use as a colourful fruit topping.
- Baking: For muffins, pancakes, bars, biscuits or energy balls (it’s best to mix the powder with the dry ingredients).
- Desserts: Stir into quark, overnight oats or chia pudding.
- Drinks: Stir into water, tea or kefir (if necessary, leave to stand for a moment and stir again).
Tip: The powder has a strong colouring effect – ideal if you want to give your food a natural violet-blue hue.
The blueberries are wild-harvested in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our local partner (Boletus d.o.o. Sarajevo) has specialised in the procurement, processing and export of forest and wild-harvested products since the early 2000s and operates in accordance with organic standards. The company is also FAIRWILD certified and is involved in projects relating to the responsible use, reforestation and monitoring of harvesting areas.
