About the product

Our organic Fairtrade raspberries are wild-harvested from remote mountain slopes around Samarkand in Uzbekistan. They are harvested by hand by smallholder families. Immediately after harvesting, the berries are gently air-dried, sorted and packed. This preserves their flavour and colour. The raspberries are 100% natural: unsweetened and free from additives.

Dried raspberries have an aromatic, fruity flavour with a naturally sweet-tart note. The drying process makes the flavour more concentrated than in fresh berries. Depending on the harvest, the texture ranges from tender to slightly firm; the small seeds provide that typical raspberry bite. For a softer consistency, you can soak the raspberries briefly or leave them to plump up in yoghurt or overnight oats.

Raspberries are a good source of fibre and vitamin C. Vitamin C contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system and helps protect cells from oxidative stress. Raspberries also naturally contain phytochemicals (including polyphenols and anthocyanins), which give them their red colour.

As with dried fruit, the removal of water means that the nutrients and energy content per portion are more concentrated than in fresh berries. When eaten in moderation, they form part of a balanced diet.

  • Snack: on its own or mixed with nuts
  • Muesli & granola: as a fruity and tangy topping
  • Yoghurt, quark, porridge: stir in briefly or soak beforehand
  • Smoothies: Soak 1–2 tbsp briefly and blend in
  • Baking: in muffins, cakes, bars or energy balls (soak briefly if necessary)
  • Desserts: for custard, ice cream, compote or as a topping for chocolate desserts

The raspberries grow in Uzbekistan in wild harvesting areas around Samarkand. They are harvested by hand by smallholder families. Wild harvesting is regulated by the state; a fee is paid per kilogramme, which also helps to protect the areas.

Further processing takes place entirely in Uzbekistan: after harvesting, the berries are gently air-dried, sorted and packaged. Processing is carried out by Pakka’s partner, Silk Road Organik Foods, which works closely with smallholder cooperatives along the ancient Silk Road, thereby boosting local economic activity and creating jobs in structurally disadvantaged regions.

Our organic Fairtrade raspberries are produced from A to Z in Uzbekistan - directly in the country of origin of the raw materials. Pakka deliberately favours direct trade without middlemen. In addition to paying the Fairtrade premium, the harvests of the small farmers are pre-financed. This strengthens the entire local value chain and ensures fair incomes, high-quality products and sustainable local economic growth.

In addition to the Fairtrade premium, 5 centimes of every product sold goes to the Pakka Foundation to support projects in the countries of origin. More info: www.pakkafoundation.org
